Close race for Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Donald Trump

Florida, Ohio, two Mini Super Tuesday states, and Arizona, which holds its primary on March 22, are the three largest winner-take-all states, with 223 delegates.

Trump claimed all 99 of Florida’s convention delegates and knocked Marco Rubio out of the Republican race.

The Texan still has a chance, but it will require him to unite virtually all of Rubio’s supporters – and, should Kasich leave the race before too long, his as well – and win a bunch of close contests over the next few months.

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump won the United States primaries in Florida, North Carolina and IL on Tuesday, but lost in OH to the state’s governor, John Kasich. Tez Cruz the loser of the day – for now.

He continued: “While this may not have been the year for a hopeful and optimistic message about our future, I still remain hopeful and optimistic about America”.

Put together, Tuesday night’s results are a major coup for Trump against a Republican establishment that has largely rejected him. Ted Cruz was in third with just 16 percent. Trump’s victories on Tuesday brought his delegate count to 619, while Cruz has 394 and Kasich has 136. Cruz has 395 delegates, followed by Kasich with 138.

If no candidate for the nomination can earn a majority of delegates in the party’s votes and caucuses, then Republican delegates will battle through however many rounds of voting are needed to come to a consensus on a nominee. Had he stayed in the race, it would have been mathematically unlikely for him to win in a non-contested convention. Republican Marco Rubio said he is ending his campaign for the Republican nomination for president after a humiliating loss in his home state of Florida.

As he wrapped up his victory speech after his first state win, Kasich assured his supporters he’s going “all the way” to Cleveland to “secure” the Republican nomination.

Hillary Clinton defeated Bernie Sanders by more than 30 points in Florida’s Democratic presidential primary. Kasich earned endorsements from the state party’s chairman and various local elected officials early on in the race and they have been campaigning on his behalf since the beginning of the year.

Primaries for both parties will continue through July. “We have something happening that makes the Republican Party this biggest political story in the world”.
