CM Punk Earns Respect of Fellow Fighters Despite UFC 203 Defeat
“In life you go big or you go home, I just like to take challenges” he said after the fight. Despite not having any MMA training and being all of 36 years old at that time, his status as one of WWE’s top stars brought a lot of hype to his decision to sign with UFC.

Dana White is very much a supporter of Punk, not a critic, but the UFC president indicated after the fight that he agreed that the ex-pro wrestler was in over his head.
CM Punk got quite the beating in UFC 203, and Conor McGregor couldn’t help joking about it! I didn’t get to the summit today, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop.
Well, in his first fight against Mickey Gall, the former WWE Champion lost within minutes in round one via submission. He had always wanted to try MMA, and when the UFC presented him with an opportunity, he couldn’t say no.
“I see a lot of hate for this guy online”. “He got in and fought, so fair play to him, respect”. Punk had no previous MMA experience, prior to fighting in the UFC. Also in the the post-fight Octagon interview, Gall went on to call out fellow young and upcoming prospect Sage Northcutt, for a possible fight at UFC 205 in Madison Square Garden. I know it sounds preachy and kinda weird for a guy that just got beat up, but (expletive) it. It doesn’t mean I’m going anywhere.
And they certainly don’t earn a 0,000 guaranteed purse and a pay-per-view main card spot for their first fight in the company.
Despite the mauling on Saturday night the 37-year-old said his UFC career was far from over. While talking to Fight Network after UFC 203, White revealed his reasons for allowing Punk a shot in the octagon.

The heavyweight champion managed to escape the hold and quickly asserted his dominance on the fight, stunning Overeem with powerful punch before delivering four devastating right-hand punches to clinch victory with 33 seconds left in the round.
