Coach Zimmer says AP has torn meniscus

Peterson underwent an MRI on his right knee after injuring it during Sunday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers.

“We’re not going to overreact”, Rodgers said.

In the first regular season contest at U.S. Bank Stadium, Minnesota’s new billion-dollar football venue, new Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford led the team to a 17-14 win over the Green Bay Packers.

That assumption was challenged on Sunday Night Football when injured Vikings’ star Adrian Peterson hobbled down what appeared to be the most direct route to the locker room.

The 31-year-old Peterson was hurt on a short run up the middle when Packers linebacker Kyle Fackrell rolled onto Peterson’s right leg.

“He’s sitting down with the doctors and [head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman]”, Zimmer said.

It’s the second time Peterson has suffered a knee injury.

The Vikings already were dealt a significant blow this season when quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffered a torn ACL and dislocated knee.

And McCarthy said the improvements that are needed on offense started right away Monday, when the players came back to work for video review of the game. How long he’ll be out is unknown, but it’s not good considering the Vikings are going into the den of the defending NFC champions this week.

With that being said, although a torn meniscus is never a positive thing, the news certainly could have been much worse. He tore both his ACL and MCL in December of 2011 only to return less than nine months later to rush for 2,097 yards in a NFL MVP season. He had only 50 rushing yards on 31 carries in his first two games and his 1.6 yards-per-carry average was the lowest for any player with at least 30 rushes since 1970 NFL/AFL merger, according to ESPN.

Asiata and McKinnon filled in for Peterson when he missed the final 15 games in 2014 because of a child-abuse incident. Asiata said the experience he and McKinnon gained that season could prove beneficial. Arizona wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald tweeted “I just spoke with Mrs. Adrian Peterson she said her husband would be okay”.

Asiata is good friends with Peterson.

The Vikings, who have three running backs on their 53-man roster, could also promote Duluth native C.J. Ham from the practice squad.

“Obviously, when you see a guy go down like that any time, obviously your heart goes out to him and his family. This is definitely a tough place to play, but we just weren’t on the same page”, Eddie Lacy, Packers running back said. It backfired on McCarthy but worked for Vikings coach Mike Zimmer.

“Everything we do is for the team”.

Although Peterson was on crutches and wearing a brace after the game, Zimmer’s comments and reports out of Minnesota seemed to indicate that the team had lucked out. “Just part of the medical; we’ll have that for you Wednesday”.
