Coal ash legislation passes in the US Senate
The bill would allow states and municipalities to prioritize Clean Water Act mandates based on the greatest health threats for their communities and to do it on a schedule that will be affordable, Inhofe said.

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) today applauded the U.S. Senate’s support for reinvesting in the nation’s water infrastructure with its inclusion of significant funding for two key programs in water resources legislation. This bill also provides critical support and reforms to help small and disadvantaged communities improve access to clean and safe drinking water and to fix aging infrastructure that contributes to lead contamination nationwide. It remains unclear whether the House of Representatives will vote on its version of the WRDA bill before adjourning at the end of the month so lawmakers can focus on campaigning for the November election.
“This bill also provides critical support and reforms to help small and disadvantaged communities improve access to clean and safe drinking water and to fix aging infrastructure that contributes to lead contamination nationwide”, they said, adding that a “critical component” of the bill is a provision addressing contamination in the water in Flint, Michigan. It contains some funding to address water infrastructure problems in Flint, Mich., and other cities.
WASHINGTON, Sept. 15 – The Senate passed an amendment Thursday introduced by Sen.
“The National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) commends Senate leaders for their bipartisan efforts to move these important investments in our nation’s water infrastructure”.
“Without WRDA’s critical funding, America’s recreational boaters could find some waterways too shallow or dangerous to safely navigate or small harbors potentially off limits if funding for dredging is not addressed”.
“The strong bipartisan support for WRDA is a recognition that livability and economic security depend on a safe, reliable supply of water”. As civil engineers, we thank the Senate for passing this comprehensive legislation.
As the boat owners advocate, BoatUS Government Affairs Senior Program Manager David Kennedy says the WRDA bill affects thousands of recreational boaters.
