Coast Guard To Call Off Search For El Faro Crew At Sunset
But knowing that a potential hurricane was brewing, why was El Faro allowed to go ahead with its scheduled route? Sadly, one body from the El Faro sea disaster has been found with the U.S. Coast Guard noting that the deceased individual was found inside of their survival suits.

“As weird and cliche it is to say he’d give you the shirt off his back, he’s actually done that before”, Leslie said.
The ship was crewed by 28 US citizens, as well as five Polish nationals who were contractors hired to perform repairs and maintenance.
The three cutters will stay on scene overnight Tuesday and continue their search.
CNN witnessed this to a degree, first hand, on Monday when the Coast Guard took two CNN journalists up for a 10-hour flight northeast of San Salvador Island, Bahamas.
“It’s been six long days of hoping and praying”, she said to a television reporter on a clip posted on her Facebook page.
U.S. Sen Susan Collins said in a statement that she had been briefed about the search by the leader of the Coast Guard and that those involved were doing everything humanely possible to find survivors. He said he does not believe the age of the ship was one of the reasons it may have sunk.

Richard Pusatere, a 34-year-old mariner from Virginia Beach, is among the 33 crew members of the cargo ship El Faro that sank during Hurricane Joaquin last week.
“I don’t think that they should have shipped them out when they knew that was going on”, Destiny Sparrow said. The search for survivors continued, however.
“However, I don’t believe he would have been pressured by the company, considering the weather forecast and so forth”, he said.
Laurie Bobillot is tired. Then they’ll return to Washington to conduct the probable cause phase of that investigation that will determine exactly what led to the ship’s demise.
Earlier Tuesday, Dinh-Zarr said the investigation would be hard given that the ship sank in an unknown location, possibly in waters 15,000 feet deep.
The model of the data recorder on the El Faro is not the most sophisticated on the market, but would still likely provide the ship’s last known position, speed and heading, as well as audio recordings from the bridge and from radio traffic.
“It’s incomprehensible with the sophisticated weather routing technology that’s available that an over 700-foot merchant vessel can be caught in the middle of a previously forecasted hurricane”, he said. Image of the El Faro cargo ship that is missing at sea.
“We will be studying the meteorological conditions and all of the factors that went into the decision-making to sail on that day and to continue to sail”, she said.
But Hanson said Saturday that Joaquin was only a tropical storm when El Faro set out from Jacksonville, but it later underwent a rapid intensification.
The crew members’ families oscillate between talking about them in the present and past tenses – highlighting the uncertainty about what has happened to their loved ones.
Young, who is a minister, said he is speaking for the family so Rivera’s parents don’t have to, according to the affiliate.
Its owners, Tote Maritime, say the ship lost power after its engines broke down.

“All I ask is for you to pray for the crew members”, said Bobillot, politely declining to say more.
