Zach Remillard and Seth Lancaster drove in runs in a two-run eighth to back Cunningham and reliever Mike Morrison for the second-seeded Chanticleers (46-15). The Wolfpack came tantalizing close but ultimately painfully short.

Down 5-3, Coastal was threatening with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth and one out.

In the first matchup between NC State and Coastal Carolina, the pitching of the Chanticleers was wholly dominant.

Junior first baseman Preston Palmeiro followed up the gift with a clean, two-out single to left to give the Wolfpack its first lead of the game.

That dropped N.C. State into a rematch with the fourth-seeded Midshipmen in a Sunday elimination game.

Avent is suspended for two games for “prolonged arguing”.

After some jarring from outside the third base dugout, Avent gets tossed, and then the real fun begins.
