Cobra Jet Mustang unveiled at SEMA Show
But that kind of power means nothing if you can’t keep the Cobra Jet’s stock Hoosier slicks on the pavement, so Ford swapped in four-link 9-inch live rear axle, which is just what you want underneath the Christmas Tree…lights, that is.

This is no ordinary Ford Mustang. The Cobra Jet is mean, thanks to a little help from Ford’s green parts bin.
To put things into perspective, as an 8-second vehicle the 2016 Cobra Jet Mustang is on par with your “run of the mill” 2,000 HP Underground Racing Twin Turbo Gallardo, and that’s pretty rarefied air.
Are you ready to find out what makes it special?
Like its predecessors, the 2016 Mustang Cobra Jet is designed for the National Hot Rod Association’s Stock and Super Stock classes, as well as several classes in the worldwide Hot Rod Association, National Mustang Racers Association and National Muscle auto Association.
After taking a break a year ago, the Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] Mustang Cobra Jet turnkey drag racer is back, and it’s quicker than ever.
Revealed at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, this new Cobra Jet shares as much as 75% production engine parts with the factory standard Mustang GT (5.0 liter supercharged engine included), while still being able to call itself a genuine 8-second auto when it comes to doing 1/4 mile runs. 8 seconds dead is the name of the game on this occasion.
Only 50 examples of this bad boy ‘Stang are slated to be produced by the Blue Oval’s Performance division. Sharing a lot with Mustang GT, Cobra Jet Mustang gets a a few pretty impressive enhancements – lightweight racing brakes, Aeromotive fuel system with a trunk-mounted fuel cell, 8.50-certified roll cage, Corbeau FIA seats, lightweight racing brakes, race-specific coil-over shocks and springs, five-point race harnesses and race-prepped automatic transmission.

The CJ also borrows an electric water pump from the C-Max hybrid that lets the engine cool without running. They have an MSRP of $99,990.
