Unbeaten bantamweight Cody Garbrandt didn’t take long to pivot after his first-round, 48-second knockout of Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 202 in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Team Alpha Male stud Cody Garbrandt feels he’s done enough to earn a title shot, but a certain prospect killer wants him first..
A blistering right hand badly rocked the Japanese veteran, but he was able to survive and scramble.
Above are video highlights of the bout between Garbrandt and Mizugaki (courtesy of the UFC).
Ultimately, the bout lasted only 48 seconds with Garbrandt the victor by TKO.
Mizugaki (21-9-2) was last seen snapping his two fight losing skid with a decision over fellow UFC veteran George Roop in September. “I knew I had to go out there and put him away early”, Garbrandt told UFC commentator Joe Rogan post fight. That faith in his own power proved to be well-founded when a hard right hand following an open-handed left landed cleanly, dropping Mizugaki just half a minute into the fight. Don’t’ get overzealous. I was a big favorite. “I knew I had to pick my shots and take him out”.
“What’s up, Dominick Cruz?”. As for Garbrandt – who Cruz dubbed the CM Punk of the 135-pound division – he is confident he can knock out the champ, break his jaw and end his reign once and for all.

The win brings Garbrandt’s career record to a flawless 10-0 while Mizugaki falls to 21-10.
