Cold temperatures, snow expected in Wichita area

Behind the front, a band of light to moderate snow will move from northwest to southeast across the state. Snowfall amounts are expected to be one to two inches across southern Kansas.

Temperatures will slowly climb into the middle 30’s by late Thursday evening.

Meteorologist Jeff Kitzmiller with the National Weather Service in Missoula says conditions are just right for a powerful winter event.

Tonight: Patchy freezing drizzle after 3am.

On Friday high temperatures will struggle to hit 20 degrees, with most towns staying in the teens!

Some lingering snow showers are possible Sunday morning with light accumulations.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 42 and a low around 32. Concern for cold air damming and icy spots with pockets of freezing drizzle Saturday night. Cloudy, with a high near 21. Winds: S 5-10 miles per hour. Winds could gust as high as 21 miles per hour. Winds could gust as high as 31 miles per hour. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

There may be a flurry around, but it’s later tonight that some snow will start to overspread the area. Cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 7 by 4pm. Wind: N 10-15. Low: -3. High near 39. South wind around 5 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Dixon forecasted 3 to 6 inches in Litchfield and northern Hartford counties, 2 to 4 inches for a strip of the state ranging from Fairfield to Tolland counties and 1 to 2 inches along the shoreline from New Haven to New London. Temperatures will be drastically cooler behind the front with most areas remaining in the 40s through the day Sunday. Wind chill values as low as -21. North northwest wind 13 to 18 miles per hour decreasing to 7 to 12 miles per hour after midnight.
