“It’s important to note that, while these cases are newly reported, they are not really new, in that the exposure continues to be in the mid-October to early-November time frame, and they are just now making their way through the reporting process”, Mr. Arnold said. Another feature will be “end-of-shelf-life testing where ingredient samples will be tested to ensure that quality specifications are maintained throughout the shelf life of an ingredient”.
An E. coli outbreak linked to Chipotle Mexican Grill has spread to Maryland, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday.
Bill Marler of Seattle law firm Marler Clark commented that people should not totally rely on a company that uses only local and fresh ingredients, since it is not immune from food safety issues.
If you became ill with diarrhea symptoms after eating at a Chipotle recently, you should contact a doctor, the CDC said.
Chipotle announced on Friday that it would start implementing new food safety practices after consulting with experts. Earnings are also expected to fall to between $2.45 and $2.85 per share for the quarter.
Chipotle acted quickly to the original outbreak, shutting the restaurants tied to the infections, reviewing its supply chain procedures, and doing extensive cleanings. After the chain was linked to the current E. coli outbreak, it temporarily shut down locations in the Pacific Northwest, which were hit especially hard, and deep cleaned them.
Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. Stock of the company dropped 8% in after-hour trading on Friday.
There are no other known cases of STEC 026 strain of E.coli in Pennsylvania. The CDC has said that a “common meal item” or ingredient is likely to blame, though the specific culprit hasnt been identified.
The CDC has not named the affected restaurant locations. They joined California, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Oregon and Washington.

“As a restaurant company, nothing is more important to us than serving our guests food that is delicious and safe to eat”, Chipotle said. That’s down from last year’s $3.84 per share. Only about 40 percent of reported foodborne disease outbreaks from 2002 to 2011 were solved, according to the watchdog group Center for Science in the Public Interest.
