Ordinarily, the chicken salad that Costco sells can be safely kept up to three days after it is purchased before it starts to go bad, though it should be eaten sooner than that, if possible. Listeria in recent years has caused the most deaths, largely due to an outbreak caused by contaminated cantaloupe in 2011 that killed 33 people, the CDC said.
