Coli outbreak linked to Costco sickens at least 19 people
The strain of E. coli linked to Costco chicken salad that has sickened 19 people in seven states is more likely to be life-threatening than a recent food-borne illness that led to the closure of some Chipotle restaurants in the Northwest.

In another report by CBS DC, six people from Montana were also reported to be affected by it, while there are five in Utah and one in California, Missouri and Virginia.
Wilson said that all five people hospitalized in connection with consuming Costco’s rotisserie chicken salad have now been release, have recovered and are doing well.
She says the investigation by the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food is complicated because the salad with rotisserie chicken is put together in-store with ingredients from a variety of sources.
The strain of bacteria that has caused the infections is E.Coli 0157:H7. The year 2014 saw the American corporation getting linked to a salmonella outbreak from chicken products sold by it in a minimum of nine states. They added that the cases of infection happened across seven states.
At least 19 people have been reported sick from E. coli.
The majority of illnesses have been reported from states in the western United States.
The CDC said in a statement that the products of Costco that are under investigation are labeled “Chicken Salad made with Rotisserie Chicken” and have an item number 37719. Bill Marler said the problem appears serious because People were hospitalized in the Chipotle outbreak, but no one developed kidney failure. CDC and state and local public health partners are continuing laboratory surveillance through PulseNet to identify additional ill persons and to interview them.
Health workers are still trying to figure out which ingredient in the chicken salad was contaminated. Children under the age of 5, older adults and people with weakened immune systems are at highest risk from E. coli illness. “Our rotisserie chickens are not implicated at all”, Wilson said.

Officials from the health agency are urging people who bought chicken salad to drop it in the trash, wherever they have bought it recently.
