Colin Kaepernick caught wearing socks showing ‘pig’ cops

The 49ers’ next preseason game is Thursday on the road against Chargers, which is also San Diego’s annual “Salute the Military” game.

A couple of weeks ago, Colin Kaepernick wore socks during several 49ers practices that depicted pigs dressed as police officers.

A letter sent to the 49ers from the Santa Clara Police Officers Association was obtained Friday by KNTV-TV, the NBC affiliate in San Jose.

It adds that the union leadership has a duty to protect its members from harassment.

The sartorial statement came prior to Kaepernick’s sit-down protest of the national anthem gaining attention during the 49ers’ preseason game on August 26. He also said that Kaepernick is one of the best two quarterbacks on the roster. And I get it, his First Amendment right.

“I just wanted to show my support for him”, Reid said.

But… Bowling Green won 10 games previous year. “I’ve been very blessed to be in this position and be able to make the kind of money I do, and I have to help these people”.

According to the Chargers’ website, “military night” is described as “hundreds of thousands of current and retired military personnel who live and work in San Diego” being present for the festivities and game. The festivities included pregame music from the Marine Band San Diego, halftime recognition of Vietnam War veterans, and a crowd filled with numerous injured soldiers invited as special guests.

While negative reaction to the quarterback has been strong, Kaepernick also has been widely praised for his commitment to his stance. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar called Kaepernick’s decision “highly patriotic” while encouraging him to take further steps to build dialogue between law enforcement and blacks.

On Tuesday, 49ers head coach Chip Kelly said that he will rest quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who is the presumptive favorite to be named the starter for Week 1.
