Prior to this announcement, Kaepernick, who has has been sitting or kneeling during the national anthem before preseason games and intends to continue for the entirety of the 2016 season, said that he would donate $1 million to various causes.

“The jersey sales jumped because of people’s belief that there can be change”, he said.

Breaking his silence on Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he disagrees with what the 49ers quarterback is doing but acknowledges his right to do it. “So I would like to see us focusing on our similarities and trying to bring people together”. Even though the athlete has faced criticism during his protest of the national anthem, there are plenty of people who support his choice.

Since Kaepernick chose to protest the national anthem, additional NFL players have come forward in support ― most recently Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall on Thursday. In a recent interview, Kaepernick clarified these rumors and said that the scrutiny he is experiencing from the public is related to society’s Islamophobia. It’s the veterans that have reached out and said that’s what they fought for, that’s what they sacrificed their lives for was to give people back home under the flag, under this country, the opportunity to stand up or sit for what they believe in. “So I feel strongly both ways”.

49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick Wednesday said he believes there are players throughout the National Football League that agree with his stance against social injustices, racial discrimination and police brutality.

“These are all important things for us, and that moment is a very important moment”. Which is what I think our country stands for, which will hopefully drive the conversation to bettering the equal rights and treatment of African Americans and people of color.

“I support it. I love what he’s doing”. We encourage our players to be respectful in that time and I like to think of it as a moment where we can unite as a country. The world needs to see people coming together versus being individuals.”.
