Colin Kaepernick expected to report to camp Monday

According to the report, before a deal is completed the 49ers, Broncos and Kaepernick have to agree on who will pay the quarterback’s $11.9 million guaranteed salary for the 2016 season.

After putting together a combined record of 17-6 through his first two seasons as a starter, Kaepernick’s quarterback rating and touchdown-to-interception ratio both slipped and the 49ers went a combined 10-14 with him as a starter through 2014 and ’15.

An NFL source confirmed to 9NEWS that Broncos general manager John Elway met Thursday in Denver with Kaepernick, who is now the San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback. The Broncos want him to restructure his deal or take a pay cut to clear up salary cap space.

Despite Colin Kaepernick’s wishes to be traded, the quarterback is still on the San Francisco 49ers roster.

Kaepernick has spent most of the past three months rehabilitating from surgeries performed there on his right thumb, left shoulder and left knee. They can still trade Kaepernick, same as they could before the deadline, and the Broncos are still an option.

The Broncos have tried to trade Clady in recent weeks and there are teams with interest.

That pay cut seems like the only way for Kaepernick to be moved. Denver has only $1.62 million in salary cap space.

Kaepernick’s health, however, could limit him his participation, and likely would keep him from passing a physical, which he’d need to before the 49ers ever released him.

The Broncos reportedly are on the verge of landing disgruntled 49ers passer Colin Kaepernick, though Kaepernick’s unwillingness to forgo a big chunk of guaranteed money remains a major – and perhaps deal-killing – stumbling block.

The Niners’ offseason workout program is scheduled to start Monday.

Bleacher Report reported Thursday that the Broncos want Kaepernick to take a deal worth $7 million in 2016, which Kaepernick’s camp has rejected.

Those are merely their base salaries and don’t reflect additional money players receive through bonuses. Kaepernick still has five years remaining on a six-year, $114 million contract extension signed in June of 2014.

If the 49ers are fully committed to keeping Kaepernick around for this season and beyond, it may skew the team’s likelihood of spending their pick on a quarterback in this year’s draft.
