Colin Kaepernick limited in Niners practice after sitting out Thursday

That scenario emerged Friday when Colin Kaepernick’s shoulder tightness prevented him from throwing any passes in practice against the Houston Texans, whom the 49ers host in Sunday’s exhibition opener.

Noting that all those body parts feel fine, Kaepernick added: “That s kind of the amusing thing about it: I never thought I d be dealing with this”.

Gabbert enjoyed a similar workload through the offseason program, when Kaepernick could not throw because of his multiple surgeries (left shoulder, right thumb, left knee).

Kaepernick told reporters after Friday’s joint practice with the Texans that he thinks he’ll be able to play Sunday, but his status will be evaluated as the game nears.

Kaepernick did not throw during Thursday’s brief team drills, after which a team spokesman said Kaepernick was having a planned day of rest.

Kaepernick had three surgeries this offseason, but none were on his right shoulder which he called “kind of the amusing part” of the fatigue that’s kept him off the field the last couple of days.

The post 49ers Kaepernick limited by sore shoulder appeared first on 49ers Hot Read. Now it’s clear that Gabbert will get the first real chance to do that come Sunday.

“I would have loved to got those reps, but it’s also something that we are in preseason practice and we don’t play a game for another month, so we want to make sure we stay ahead before we get to the season”, Kaepernick said.

As for starting against the Texans, Gabbert said he isn’t too anxious about something that he doesn’t control, even if signs point to him getting the first shot.

When asked if he considers that a lot of throwing, Kaepernick answered, “In the past, I’d say no”.

“I’ve experienced that a couple of times in my baseball career”, he said. “So I think it’s just building my endurance in that area”. “My arm has always snapped back quick”.
