San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was placed on injured reserve, shutting down his season. Kaepernick said he was injured in the team’s October 4 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

When the 49ers look at their organization this off-season, they might want to re-assess their strategy of offering rolling one-year salaries and put more dollars into guaranteed money. The 49ers have promoted quarterback Dylan Thompson to their active roster from the team’s practice squad, according to the 49ers team website.

Regarding the circumstances that led to Kaepernick’s season-ending surgery, Baalke dismissed any notion that the team and Kaepernick weren’t on the same page.

The third year starter has thrown for 3,448 yards with 21 touchdowns and only three interceptions while completing 69.1 percent of his passes. When the 49ers offer low guaranteed dollars, they become a less attractive team for free agents.
But then the 49ers won with Blane Gabbert as their starting quarterback letting them know just how bad Kaepernick is. Even before going on IR, it was clear that Kaepernick wouldn’t be back in 2016, as I’ve previously reported.

Once again, when the 49ers get ready to dump somebody, they will always do it in the most awkward, self-defeating way possible.
