Colin Kaepernick’s ‘dead arm’ muddies 49ers’ quarterback situation

Ponder was drafted 12th overall by the Minnesota Vikings in 2011, two picks behind current 49ers’ No. 1 quarterback Blaine Gabbert, and he started 36 games over four seasons.

“I’m an athlete. I can play right tackle or anywhere on the line”, Davis said. To shoot the moon and go for it all.

“We got a lot of great work in, a lot of long practices, a lot of good work for our offense against a great defense”, Gabbert said. Remember when Ron Jaworski said he could be one of the best quarterbacks ever?

Kaepernick hasn’t thrown in team drills since last Wednesday, the result of what he initially called a tight shoulder but the team has since classified as a exhausted arm. There were a couple of really bad things turnover-wise, which was an ugly part of the game that really set us back.

The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed QB Christian Ponder to a one-year deal. It’s undoubtedly keeping Kaepernick from being an efficient passer, at least one good enough to beat out Blaine Gabbert for the starting spot.

If Kaepernick can’t participate this week, it’s nearly impossible to imagine he could make up that time; if Kaepernick can participate but is flat, it’s just as hard to see him leaping over Gabbert as long as Gabbert is healthy and avoiding major offensive cataclysm. In fact, given the performance by San Francisco’s signal callers, it’s a situation that might be inducing some panic within the organization and its fanbase. We don’t know, at this point. I think that first drive, a couple balls he probably wants back, trying to get us on track. The 49ers need to overcome some serious deficiencies.

The star of the game was a Houston Texans quarterback, though not the one Texans fans were hoping for. They could only win two games, but by the same end, we have seen a highly successful Kaepernick lead a team to the Super Bowl. They finished 11-5 and reached the playoffs. That would entail putting Kaepernick on the bench and keeping him in bubble wrap so that, come 2017, they won’t be strapped with a fully-guaranteed $14.5 million obligation that can’t be avoided before April 1 if he’s injured, again.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – Backup quarterbacks Scott Tolzien and Stephen Morris teamed up in leading Indianapolis to a preseason-opening victory over Buffalo.

Gabbert evened the score just over four minutes later when he connected with McDonald on the lengthy catch-and-run play.

With Kaepernick out, Gabbert played at quarterback versus the Texans. Chip Kelly intends to lean on the running game while he figures out how to make the passing game an asset. The former Duke star spent a year ago on the roster as the team’s third string quarterback, not seeing any game action. His arm and decision making isn’t too far off from Gabbert, so why not take the shot? Why not take a shot at nine games when the downside is that you remain what you already are: the laughingstock of the league?
