“I support our players when they want to see change in society, and we don’t live in a ideal society”, Goodell said.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made his first public comments Wednesday about about the controversy, saying:,”I support our players when they want to see change in society, and we don’t live in a ideal society”.
“I love that there is freedom of speech and that he can stand up for what he believes in”, Curry said. “But I think that [rumor of conversion] comes along with people’s fear of this protest, as well as Islamophobia in this country”.
Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest has found plenty of supporters among athletes, but Shaquille O’Neal is not one of them.
Kaepernick made headlines in August after he refused to stand up whenever the country’s national anthem played during his team’s preseason games. He said hes pleased his 49ers jersey has become the top seller in the National Football League since his protest became public. Jeremy Lane, a defensive back with the Seattle Seahawks, sat during the anthem before the Seahawks’ game against the Oakland Raiders.
“I don’t necessarily agree with what he is doing”, Goodell said.
“I’m excited about the times we’re in because we’re talking about it”, Marshall said.
“I’m not backing off”, said Tortorella, according to ESPN.com. After his jersey rocketed to No. 1 following his protest, Kaepernick announced that, in addition, he would donate all the money he receives from his jersey sales, too.
US hockey coach John Tortorella said hed bench any player who stays seated during the national anthem.
“I’m aware of all the issues, but my question is how come he didn’t do it previous year or how come you didn’t do it when you first entered the NFL?”
“The jersey sales jumped because of people’s belief that there can be change”, he said.

Daniel Durbin, the director of the USC Annenberg Institute of Sports, Media and Society, commented, “One seldom sees skyrocketing sales due to a social or political stance”, adding that such numbers show some sort of celebrity beyond Kaepernick’s accomplishments on the playing field. “I wish people would as outraged about the murders that are happening in the street as they are the protest”. Sales of Kaepernick’s jersey have skyrocketed since his protest became public.
