This will be a disappointing end to Kaepernick’s career with the 49ers, presuming it is the end.
However, Kaepernick would likely argue that the 49ers abandoned him after he signed his contract extension.
Head coach Jim Tomsula agreed with the veteran tackle.
“Defensively, none of us are happy with the way we played”, Tomsula said.
The only other time Kaepernick was on an injury report this season was is following a Week 7 loss to Seattle when he suffered a thumb injury.
Et cetera – McDonald, who had 64 receiving yards on the season entering the game, finished with 65 yards Sunday. He ranked 27th in the National Football League in completion percentage (59.0) and 29th in passer rating (78.5).

He threw the ball better than Kaepernick ever has against this Seattle defense – Gabbert completed 22 of his 34 passes for 264 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions (though the Seahawks dropped several chances). He also ran for 256 yards and a touchdown on 45 carries.
