To serve as backup to Gabbert is the unheralded quarterback Dylan Thompson, an undrafted rookie out of South Caroline who will officially become part of the team’s practice squad and will obtain Kaepernick’s roster spot. He has thrown for 1,615 yards and six touchdowns, while also tossing five interceptions for a 78.5 passer rating on the year.

Yet that guy never came to life this season, instead making more mistakes than memorable plays.
