Colin Murray announced his resignation from the station, where he was one of their stars, due to its purchase by Rupert Murdoch-owned News Corp, the owners of The Sun. He references the Hillsborough disaster of 1989 by signing off his tweet with #JFT96.
Murray is a Liverpool supporter and fans of the Merseyside club have boycotted the paper over its reporting of the Hillsborough disaster.
The former Match of the Day 2 host, who presents a weekday late morning show on TalkSport, will step down from his role after his last show on 2 September.
Collymore announced he will be leaving talkSPORT after eight years of service after his contract with the radio station was not renewed on Tuesday. Tap the button below on your phone to add!
The sports presenter revealed the news on Twitter with a statement that singled out his future working relationship with The Sun as the reason for his position becoming “unsustainable”.
Commercially, I delivered all-time record ratings and creatively, I was left alone to mould a show of which I was intensely proud.
‘Sincere thanks to Scott, Liam, Steve, Dennie, Kathryn and those I’ve worked with, plus my wonderful cast of co-presenters. I can not think you enough.
