Berkeley’s law school dean, Sujit Choudhry, resigned Thursday over allegations from his former executive assistant that he had subjected her to unwanted kissing and other physical contact.
California’s head men’s basketball coach, Cuonzo Martin, has initiated termination proceedings under University of California policy against assistant coach, Yann Hufnagel, Cal’s Intercollegiate Athletics Department announced today.
Hufnagel has been relieved of his duties effectively immediately and will not be traveling with the team in the upcoming NCAA tournament game on Friday against University of Hawaii.
The UC system’s president, Janet Napolitano, introduced a new sexual harassment policy Friday. She also ordered university leaders to complete sexual assault and harassment training by March 25. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.
Some critical of UC Berkeley’s handling of sexual harassment and assault complaints, including sophomore Marisa McConnell, say the swift termination of Hufnagel could be just a reaction to bad publicity – not a true shift in the campus’s approach to an old problem.

Officials at the University of California, Berkeley have begun the process to fire their assistant men’s basketball coach Yann Hufnagel Monday for alleged sexual harassment. The school has not released the details of the investigation. “You continue to push forward. More important, prompt and effective responses to findings of sexual harassment and sexual violence are key to changing behavior”. He received much praise as an assistant coach at Vanderbilt and Harvard universities, coaching athletes such as Jeremy Lin. He worked with the university’s guards previous year and the team’s backcourt was considered one of the best in the Pac 12 conference, the school said.
