Washington College sent students home Tuesday, and president Sheila C. Bair announced Wednesday that the campus would remain closed until after Thanksgiving due to “the hard events of the past few days”. The weapon was subsequently seized by police.

During this time, Marberger was kicked out of his fraternity and resigned from the Student Government Association, WJLA reported.

Concerns this week began with postings on the anonymous social media app Yik Yak overnight Sunday into Monday, police confirmed, and escalated when Marberger’s family called the school. “He is a while male, 5’4”, 130 lbs, with brown curly hair. “He was last seen driving a 1997 dark green Range Rover with Pennsylvania tag beginning with ‘JWY, ‘” the college said. Classes would start the following Monday.

Officials say all the students who live on campus are now either home, have been taken in by members of the campus, or Chestertown community.

The Washington Post has identified the student as Jacob Marberger, a 19-year-old sophomore from the Philadelphia area.

Marberger is wanted on four charges related to him showing an antique gun at his fraternity house last month while intoxicated. Marberger had been scheduled to face a hearing based on the school’s honor code this week, Chestertown Police Chief Adrian Baker said, adding that Marberger had not made any known threats to the college or students.
