Collins Advises Trump Against Talking About Mueller’s Russia Probe

Months after his reported effort to fire special counsel Robert Mueller, President Donald Trump is still fuming over the Russian Federation investigation and has Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in his crosshairs. He believes that President Trump might still try to fire him in the near future.

News of Trump’s brush with firing Mueller came as reports emerged suggesting the investigation is increasingly focused on the question of whether Trump obstructed justice in firing former FBI Director James Comey.

Two influential Republican senators have urged U.S. President Donald Trump to avoid public comments about the special counsel’s probe into potential contacts with Russian Federation during his 2016 campaign.

In testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee on June 8, recently fired FBI Director James Comey disclosed that he spoke contemporaneously with other senior bureau officials about potentially improper efforts by the president to curtail the FBI’s investigation of alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation to interfere in the 2016 USA presidential election. Trump’s public humiliation of Sessions prompted the attorney general to offer his resignation, though Trump ultimately kept Sessions on.

“We’re not going to say it’s fake news and move on”, he said Sunday on “This Week”.

The push to impeach President Donald Trump now has some competition from a campaign with unknown financial backers that wants to censure the president instead.

Trump called for Mueller’s firing last June, according to one person familiar with the matter.

Indeed, oddsmakers, too, reflected Graham’s position that Trump’s presidency could face the most danger of impeachment this year amid more and more revelations from Mueller’s investigation. Among the conflicts raised at the time included an allegation that Mueller had a dispute over membership fees at Trump National Golf Club in Virginia before resigning as a member in 2011.

CBS News reported that McGahn was fed up with other aspects of his job, which is why he thought about quitting, and it wasn’t a direct result of Trump’s Mueller chatter.

On Sunday, lawmakers praised Mueller’s impartiality and expressed confidence that he would be able to conduct a full, wide-ranging investigation.

“Except when it’s a witch hunt”, he qualifies, “when you might be asked very calculated questions created to take even innocent answers and twist them into an indictable offense”. “As a matter of fact, I think Mr. Mueller is the ideal guy to get to the bottom of all this, and he will”. “The special prosecutor’s investigation is continuing, along with the bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee’s investigation”, he said in a statement provided by his office.

Given last week’s news – that Trump has already tried to fire Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating the Trump campaign – it’s time to put together the same sort of list for Trump. While Trump often directed that anger at Sessions, by June he turned his ire to Mueller and wanted the special counsel fired, a source confirmed to CNN after it was first reported in The New York Times.
