Collins doubts she can vote for health care bill

The announcement came three days after Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona, said that he could not “in good conscience” support the latest repeal proposal, written by Senators Lindsey Graham of SC and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana. Lindsey Graham of SC and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana – would eliminate Affordable Care Act exchange subsidies and a higher reimbursement rate for Medicaid expansion states and replace them with lower block grants. He says that’s because instead of significant spending cuts, it redistributes money to states based on a formula.

Republican leaders over the weekend tweaked the bill to give more money to states including Alaska, Arizona, Maine and Kentucky.

This appears to be an overture to critics like senators Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, and Mike Lee, who have been pushing for more deregulation. “Whatever the CBO score is will be superseded by another score later this week”, Cassidy said Sunday on ABC’s This Week.

The bill, known as Graham-Cassidy, would dismantle the major components of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare.

Sen. Collins joined Kentucky Sen. John McCain, distributing a video that showed the Arizona Republican on board with the mission in the past.

Although Trump did not acknowledge defeat, he sounded pessimistic about passing the legislation, saying “Looks like [Republican GOP Sen.] Susan Collins and some others will vote against”.

Numerous protestors who were hauled out of the room were in wheelchairs. The CBO also found that states that expanded Medicaid under Obamacare would receive about 30 percent less funding, while states that did not expand Medicaid would get roughly 30 percent more. The bill is opposed by doctors, hospitals, and insurers, and now lacks the 50 votes needed to pass the Senate. After that, it will take at least 60 votes. Instead of the ACA’s single risk pool, states could create multiple risk pools with the aim of driving down premiums for the healthier customers-a change that insurance companies had opposed in an earlier repeal bill.

“I hear that he’s thinking about his vote, and I want to encourage him in every way that I can to vote against fix and repeal”, said Lou Taylor, with TX21Indivisible, one of the protest groups.

“My life is on the balance on this”.

Only three “no” votes were needed from GOP senators to deal a fatal blow to the bill.

The bill also has been rejected by national groups representing physicians, hospitals, and insurers.
