Collins miffed about Harvey’s pitch limit
Instead of all eyes being on Sabathia, all eyes will be on Matt Harvey, who will only go about five to six innings after Scott Boras insisted to the Mets front office that he had an innings limit.

New York Yankees’ Brian McCann, right, runs the bases after hitting a two run home run off New York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard, center, during the sixth inning of a baseball game, Saturday, September 19, 2015, in New York. For the Yankees, it was one step closer to the dream scenario they need to snatch the AL East title from right under the Blue Jays.
“I want you to understand something: This kid is still a tremendous competitor”. Over 20 years later, the concrete cookie cutter pinch hit for Yankee Stadium one final time when a portion of the upper deck collapsed at the House that Ruth built. He struck out eight batters for the second consecutive start and has struck out eight or more in three of his last four outings.
Roger Angell in the New Yorker weighs in on Harvey getting pulled after five innings Sunday. Once Harvey departed, the Mets turned the matchup into a “March exhibition game”, an irate Francesa declared, while insisting that Collins was equally livid after the game because “other people” were making pitching decisions.
Corbin (6-4) ended his own skid in San Francisco after going winless in four previous starts at the ballpark. Their lead was gone, the Nationals had already won, and about every Mets fan in the stands began fretting like it was 2007.
Six relievers followed Harvey to the mound, and none were particularly effective.
“It was extremely hard to take him out”. “You couldn’t set it up any worse than it was”.
But once the Mets went to the soft part of their bullpen, the Yankees quickly erased a 1-0 deficit. Bryce Harper hit a two-run homer after delivering a sacrifice fly during the Nats’ three-run fifth. Sunday was no different, as he sent a three-run home run to right field, which brought the lead to 5-1.
Jacoby Ellsbury led off with an infield single.
“[Harvey’s] stated that he’s prepared to do whatever we ask him to do”, Alderson said.
“Did we not stay in first place?” the manager shouted to a silent crew. “It was a very meaningful ballgame”. Maybe he’s totally wrong about how to go about ensuring it. We know less about how to prevent torn pitcher ligaments than we do about most things in baseball. It would have been worth the gamble of two more bullpen innings to pinch-hit for Harvey. After he was removed, he sat on the bench and lowered his head, nodding during a chat with Collins. “So I did it”, Collins said.
“All the talk and everything else isn’t going to change the fact that’s what we had to do”, he said. “How do you get him into that?” “He is going to pitch if we get to the postseason”. No one knows how best to treat a pitcher returning from Tommy John surgery. Coming off 6 2-3 scoreless innings at Tampa Bay, the lefty gave up one run and five hits in six innings with seven strikeouts.
Despite entering this series with far less hype than the Mets and without Alex Rodriguez due to them not being able to use the designated hitter, the Yankees proved once again that, no matter who they put on the field, they find a way to get it done. Yogi Berra, who will forever remain the only man ever to manage both of these teams to Pennants, would have said, “It ain’t over ’til it’s over, but this one is over”. On the fifth pitch of his at-bat against Alfredo Simon, Morales belted a solo shot to right.

“You want to give him a chance to get two hitters out before the tying run comes up”, Girardi said.
