As reported by Western Journalism, the sheriff of Carroll County, Maryland, wrote an open letter to President Obama last week calling on him to do more to recognize the sacrifices law enforcement officers are making in the country.
BAILEY, Colo. (AP) – Authorities brought numbers this time in case of trouble, but they never expected a long-delayed eviction would turn into a deadly shootout with a Colorado man who peacefully refused to leave his foreclosed home two years earlier. “The response from our brother and sister law enforcement agencies, and our community, is truly heartwarming and overwhelming”.
Cpl. Nate Carrigan was a 13-year veteran of the Park County Sheriff’s Office who coached football and baseball players at Platte Canyon High School, where he was once a student-athlete.
A sheriff’s deputy in Colorado was shot and killed while trying to serve an eviction notice to a 58-year-old man who was believed to have been an active and vocal member of the Occupy Denver movement.
“I see no need to take firearms away from people but I respect the rights of certain institutions and private companies to bar weapons from their places of business and their sanctuaries”, he wrote.
Records also show that in 2005, Daniel Spykstra was granted a permanent protection order against Wirth.
Sheriff Fred Wegener had arrived when Wirth came out on his deck and returned inside. Officers followed him inside the residence, and Wirth began shooting. The two other deputies shot suffered non-life threatening injuries. The other was treated and released after a bullet grazed his ear. The federal lawsuit claimed that state foreclosure laws were unconstitutional and that Wirth and his unnamed guests were “in imminent danger of being wrongfully deprived of home and property while also being threatened with an armed and forcible entry onto the property and into the home”.
A recluse and anti-government activist living in the mountains of Park County, Colorado, shot three sheriff’s deputies Wednesday, killing one.
Jurors told the newspaper they were conflicted about the verdict.

The number so far this year dramatically outpaces the number of officers killed at the same point in 2015, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, a nonprofit that monitors such deaths.
