Colombians Worried About Miss Universe Runner-Up’s Mental Health After Blunder
While Harvey took the blame onstage, a behind-the-scenes Snapchat post, which is no longer accessible, showed the comedian claiming that the teleprompter fed him the wrong name.

Host Steve Harvey managed to mess up the announcement of the victor leading Runner-Up Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez-Arévalo to be crowned victor in front of millions of viewers by mistake.
Thomas Niedermueller/Getty Images Miss Germany Sarah-Lorraine Riek said Miss Colombia “was robbed as the real victor”. “I just kept reading the card and it said, “First runner-up” and I went, ‘Oh my goodness'”.
John Locher/AP The other contestants comfort Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez after she was incorrectly crowned Miss Universe. The actual victor was Riza Santos, who found out she won when the pageant director called her two days after the competition. Hating Miss Philippines won’t make you pretty. Harvey says “The TelePrompTer said Miss Universe- Colombia”…
Standing in the dark Miss Philippines was left flummoxed as the spot light shifted.
She added: “Guys!!!! That’s Not me!”
Now she has reportedly apologised for her comments, with the Miss Universe Germany team issuing a statement on their official Facebook page – shortly before the entire page was pulled down. It was my mistake. In one cent, she is truly a victor.
And sadly the crowning moment was marred and the program abruptly ended. But losing is the best thing that ever happened to Colombia.
Steve Harvey owned up to his Miss Universe mistake on stage – but he also was very quick to blame someone else for the pageant gaffe. Unfortunately, a live telecast means that human error can come into play.

But it’s not the first time a wrong victor has been announced. Our sincerest apologies to Miss Universe Colombia, Miss Universe Philippines, their families and fans.
