A judge says a man who acknowledges killing three people at a ColoradoPlanned Parenthood clinic remains mentally incompetent to continue with his case.
At a brief hearing in El Paso County District Court, the judge presiding over the murder case read from the report that said Robert Lewis Dear, 58, has not been restored to competency, said Rob McCallum, spokesman for the Colorado Judicial Branch. The report cited by El Paso County District Court Judge Gilbert Martinez from the state hospital where Dear is being held means that criminal proceedings against him remain on hold.
Dear is accused of killing University of Colorado-Colorado Springs officer Garrett Swasey and two others at the clinic on November 27.
He was found incompetent after two psychologists testified that he has a delusion disorder that made him unable to assist in his defense. There is no timetable for when that process at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo will be complete.
In one of his initial appearances in December, Dear had an outburst in court, yelling, “I am guilty, there will be no trial, I am a warrior for the babies”. The 15 clinic employees survived.
Schiffelbei said Dear made comments about “saving the babies” and “no more baby parts”.

Dear was not present for Thursday’s hearing, but is scheduled to attend a motions hearing on November 17 to again review his competency.
