Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood Suspect Appears in Court

After news of Dear’s outburst spread Wednesday, Planned Parenthood Executive Vice President Dawn Laguens tweeted, “Let’s be clear: Violent rhetoric can lead to violent actions”, apparently repeating the group’s earlier statements tying the shooting to criticism of Planned Parenthood by conservative lawmakers and presidential candidates.

Police say he opened fire, injuring nine people and killing three.

Three more officers were shot and wounded inside the clinic about two hours later as SWAT teams tried to corner the suspect and rescue people from hiding places, the radio reports show. The charges filed against Dear, 57, included eight options of first-degree murder and 131 counts of attempted first-degree murder, CNN reported.

Dear’s hands and feet were restrained in court.

“I’m guilty. There’s no trial. I am a warrior for the babies”, and, “Protect the babies”. Dear shouted at King, according to the Denver Post.

Regardless of your political stance on abortion, using violence against those whom you disagree with is unacceptable, and to use the right’s favorite phrase, un-American.

Dear also claimed King “drugged” Holmes and that “he wants to do that to me”.

Holmes was on anti-psychotic medication this year during his trial for the 2012 shootings that killed 12 people and wounded 70.

Dear also referred to his mental health, and Aurora theater gunman, who will spend his life in prison.

Delise allegedly called on Tuesday the Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs, which remains closed after the November 27 mass shooting, and the call was transferred to a Planned Parenthood in Denver, Fountain police said in a media release. They asked the judge for more time to decide whether or not to have a preliminary hearing, they asked the Prosecution to share any documents and video of Dear from when he was arrested and interrogated. Vicki Cowart, president of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, was clear that she believes the shooter “was motivated by opposition to safe and legal abortion”. Notably, this is a common practice among activists trying to shut down abortion clinics.

Dear also asked, “Could you add the babies that were to be aborted that day?” in response to a courtroom discussion of a list of the shooting’s victims. I don’t know what kind of bystanders were there and what they were saying.
