Colorado Springs police are investigating a Saturday morning shooting with a crime scene that spans a wide stretch of the eastern area of downtown and involved a police officer, officials said.

KKTV in Colorado Springs reported that a suspect was shot and injured by police at the Wendy’s near Wasatch Avenue and Platte Avenue. The video was taken after the suspect was shot by officers.

The suspect is in unknown condition. A witness told News5 the suspect had a rifle.

The Sheriff’s Office took over the part of Saturday’s investigation that involved the officer-involved shooting.

Deputies said the suspect had multiple weapons on him. CSPD is still the lead on the investigation into the shootings on Prospect and Platte. Those intersections could be blocked off for the next 8-10 hours, police said.

We will update this story as details become available.

Police returned fire, Buckley said. The investigation has been turned over to the El Paso County Sheriff’s office. Those streets have been shut down while investigators try to figure out what happened.

Platte Avenue is closed in both directions from Corona Street to Weber Street, Buckley said.
