There are twice as many titles up for grabs than the Olympics at world championships.

The brilliant Trott blew her rivals away to retain the omnium title she won in London four years ago, securing her standing as Britain’s greatest female Olympic athlete. United States’ Sarah Hammer won the silver medal in the women’s omnium cycling event after the points race that she won at the Rio Olympic Velodrome during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016.

And it could have been even better.

Kristina Vogel from Germany beat British talent Rebecca James to clinch victory in women’s sprint. “With them both being cyclists as well, it just helps to get other people in Cheshire excited about the sport in general, with the Tour of Britain just around the corner”.

Kenny, who marries Trott next month, later won his third gold medal in Rio in the men’s Keirin, holding his nerve after two false starts.

“I’m so proud at what I achieved”, she said.

“We did so well in Beijing, we matched in it London”.

“I couldn’t understand a word she was saying”.

Now the target will be the 65 medals won in London in 2012.

The was a shock in the Women’s 1,500-metres final as Ethiopia’s Genzebe Dibaba was beaten to gold. We’ve won six golds, four silvers and a bronze in the velodrome. “Unless there is something hidden in there or some insane advance in technology”, he said.

The 1992 Olympic champion has since defended himself though, tweeting: “Just to clarify, what’s for tea is often I question asks me!” She later back-tracked.

“There’s nothing I can say that I wish would have gone better”, she said.

“That’s what they’re working for, just working for the Olympics. They are obviously doing something right”.

Jack Laugher completed a remarkable diving double in Rio as he added 3m individual silver to his synchro gold to officially put Team GB on 50 medals.

Alain Sign and Dylan Fletcher were the other Brits to stand out on the day, moving up to fourth in the 49er class, with a ten point deficit to recover to reach the podium in Thursday’s medal race.

No stone is left unturned to find the “marginal gains” former team boss Dave Brailsford was once obsessed about.

Iain Dyer, the man appointed as head coach by Sutton, said it was down to the athletes and forward planning.

“Then we target the Olympics”. I went there without any expectations, so to win two golds was just incredible, and then I thought, ‘How on earth am I going to top that?’ We believed in ourselves, and in our team. If he keeps his focus, manages the years in between and stays injury free, he could go on for two, three more Olympic Games.
