Colts/Bears Scheduled For Joint Practices

“We’ve got to fix a lot of things, I’ve got to fix some stuff, offensive line, receivers, so we’ll have some good film to watch tonight”.

Bears head coach John Fox has some experience with joint practices, which is why they are limiting the match-up to two days. “They won the day”, Cutler said.

“Everyone has different styles”, Fox said.

Something else we likely won’t see?

“I don’t know about that, ” said Colts backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, who has only participated in two other joint practices during his 17-year career. “I think you get a little better workout like this”. You have different styles of offense and defense and that’s good practice for your team. Team spokesman Avis Roper said Langford left because of unspecified medical reasons. The Bears had the clock on their side, but made a stop to hold the Colts to the field goal.

It was a new experience for most players.

After Brock Vereen struggled against the Dolphins last week, Amos was bumped up the starting defense and he has a big opportunity this week to show what he can do.

The offensive half of the Bears’ practice against the Colts on Wednesday had a familiar feel.

Bowen’s Analysis:Pagano laid it out pretty clearly of how the Colts practices will operate with the Bears. The return of Jeffery is important, as Chicago will also be without rookie receiver Kevin White for at least the first six games of the regular season.

From Julius Peppers to Von Miller, Fox has entrusted rookie starters before.

Of course, Peppers and Miller were both No. 2 overall draft picks. “Really concentrate on your technique”, said tight end Dwayne Allen regarding today’s joint scrimmage. “We’re shifting some guys in there”. On Sunday, we finally got to see what all the hype was about for ourselves.

The first-string offense is out to build on the two series they played in last Thursday’s exhibition opener. “He’s caught our eye for sure and we’ll see how he does”.

Fox looks at the joint practices as a measuring stick for the Bears. His status for Saturday’s game isn’t certain, but he seems unlikely to play. Pagano said the competition level in this training camp has reinforced his opinion. “But me and Frank go way back”.

NOTES: Receiver Alshon Jeffery and running back Daniel Thomas did not practice for the Bears, and cornerback Tracy Porter left early with a hamstring injury, Fox said…. That said, he faces a tough battle to make the Colts’ 53-man roster. Playing time on Saturday night and in Week Three of the preseason isn’t going to be enormous for those guys, so a chance to impress (against another team) comes on Wednesday and Thursday.
