Colts’ fake punt attempt fails miserably

Perhaps the Colts meant to try to draw the Patriots offside, or simply to force them to use a timeout. A fake punt call is understandable in that situation since the Colts didn’t want to give the Patriots the ball again with the game as close as it was.

Seriously, what else could possibly describe that thing? And if you get a certain look, you got three yards, two yards, you can make a play.

Chuck Pagano tried, but failed.

The offer came in a tweet from @paganoshow, retweeted by @colts: “Tweet your questions for Coach Pagano here and have them answered tonight on @Colts Monday Night starting at 6 on @1070thefan”.

The New England Patriots didn’t steam-roll the Indianapolis Colts the way many thought they would, but Bill Belichick isn’t going to lose any sleep over the outcome. “It was a good job by the guys on the field, though, being aware”.

“I didn’t keep them, ” Brady replied. And what, exactly, was head coach Chuck Pagano trying to do with the play? Chuck Pagano said that he needed to prepare his players better for the play, but I have to imagine that the Colts went through the options and emphasized that the ball very well might not be snapped – in fact, it probably wouldn’t be snapped.

Not good for a trick that McAfee said the team had been working on as early as previous year. It takes a village to run a play this stupid.

Just in case you’re one of the few people on the planet who hasn’t seen the debacle that was the Colts’ attempt at trickeration, here is a GIF. So it’s just kind of everybody making sure that they take care of their responsibility on the shift and make sure that we can defend the formation and know who is eligible. Just to get the stench of last night off the franchise.

However, the Patriots are too well of a coached team to fall for a trick as blatant as that. Or, as it turned out, one play away from losing.

“No, not at all”, Pagano said, per Kevin Patra of Around the NFL. “We wanted to attack this football team”.

New England was already up, 27-21, at the time of the Colts’ botched play and converted the great field position into what would turn out to be the game-winning touchdown in a 34-27 Patriots victory.

The entire team shifts to the right, putting nine players-including the entire offensive line and punter Pat McAfee-over by the Colts’ sideline. So, yeah, it’s something they have done in the past. “I don’t know that they meant to do that”. Snapping the ball was certainly an option, yes, but I don’t think it was the most prominent one on that particular play.

The game didn’t go the way anyone expected, though.
