Colts might sit Mathis until October
Unfortunately, the way the tweet was worded – “Bring unused or expired Rx prescriptions for safe disposal to #ColtsCamp” – had some quickly jumping to jokes at Colts owner Jim Irsay’s expense. “We want to make sure the doctors feel he’s ready”.

“We’ve talked about October roughly, ” Irsay said, per FOX59’s Mike Chappell.
And the award for “Most weird Training Camp Promotion” goes to… the Indianapolis Colts. Knowing Robert, anything is possible.
Mathis is returning from an Achilles tear and most likely will never be the same. “I know our guys are motivated to have a great year”.
Although Irsay put a timetable on the return of the franchise’s all-time sack leader, Mathis himself said in June that he would be ready when the regular season opens September 13 against the Buffalo Bills, adding that he was ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation.
Robert Mathis tore his Achilles during a workout while he was serving his four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance enhancing drug policy.
Once Robert Mathis is healthy, he is expected to start at outside linebacker. He looks good doing it, but running and cutting are not the same thing as returning to football activities and getting on the field.
Indianapolis Colts outside linebacker Robert Mathis will not see game action until late September or early October.

Mathis, 34, won’t be rushed back from the torn Achiles tendon that kept him out all of last season.
