Colts Place QB Charlie Whitehurst and OG Hugh Thornton on Injured Reserve
While Miami is eliminated from postseason contention, Indianapolis still has some hope remaining. Backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has been knocked out of the last four games and is now doubtful after finishing Sunday’s game with his injured right shoulder in a sling. National Football League oddsmakers accordingly favor Miami by 2.5 points in the game which will air at Noon Central on FOX.

ABOUT THE DOLPHINS (5-9): After accumulating seven touchdowns during a three-game stretch in November, Ryan Tannehill has reached the end zone only twice this month and thrown for just 538 yards in three outings. The last time the Dolphins attempted to change their franchise fate by winning meaningless games late in the year it cost them an opportunity to draft the aforementioned Andrew Luck, and they settled for a starting quarterback named Ryan Tannehill out of Texas A&M. Meanwhile, punter Matt Darr averaged 52 yards per kick, punting it three times, including a long of 59 yards and one boot that landed inside the Colts 20-yard line. Before this week’s matchup against the Dolphins, head coach Chuck Pagano asked Hasselbeck if he wanted to sit out and heal his injuries. Pagano said Thornton would need surgery…. He said that they would have to see how the week goes and who gets the lion’s share of the snaps during practice.

The Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback situation took another hit on Monday when Charlie Whitehurst was placed on injured reserve with a pulled hamstring.
“Now is the time to be mentally and physically tough”, said the 40-year-old Hasselbeck, who has been plagued by back, shoulder, neck, rib and jaw issues during the team’s losing skid.
Assuming the Colts don’t get the miracle they need, the Texans would be quite the playoff story. Wide receiver Andre Johnson (University of Miami) had three catches for 39 yards.
Whitehurst did a reasonable job filling in, completing 9 of 14 for 78 yards, but converted just one third down in the second half. Miami has the home field advantage today.
There is no disputing the positive effect Hasselbeck has had for the Colts this season. A healthy Luck should also play if the Colts are already eliminated before their final game against Tennessee at Lucas Oil Stadium. Prior to the last three games, he had thrown for an average of 271 yards with 20 TDs and 11 INTs.
Four plays later, when a botched snap turned all that crackling fourth-quarter momentum into mush, the thunder of all those voices turned off like a spigot and a murderous silence took its place, the kind that follows playoff losses. The Colts are not particularly good at defending the run (No. 25) nor is its pass defense formidable (No. 29).

As for the other players, the Dolphins will be shorthanded after center Mike Pouncey (left foot) and linebacker Chris McCain (knee) had season-ending injuries. However, he could still produce solid numbers in the game against the Dolphins.
