Following a survey of damage caused by Wednesday’s powerful storms that caused destruction in IN and OH, the National Weather Service has confirmed that tornadoes did touch down in Allen and Adams County.

Local residents who want to help victims in Howard and Montgomery counties recover from Wednesday’s devastating tornadoes, have several options. Damage from storms and tornadoes are seen here in Komoko, Indiana, Aug. 24, 2016. While the state’s Department of Homeland Security initially said 12 tornadoes were confirmed, it lowered that count to eight late Thursday morning.

The storm in Kokomo, about 50 miles north of Indianapolis, piled cars on top of one another and even flattened a Starbucks, where people hid in the coffee shop’s bathroom. “We are now monitoring roughly 10-15 minor injuries in Howard county and we’re in the assessment process in Montgomery county”.

Utility companies reported more than 32,000 customers were without power in the state as of Wednesday night.

In central IN, multiple tornadoes touched down on Wednesday.

Many trees were knocked down in the neighborhood and a large truck was also knocked onto its side, but other houses are largely undamaged.

This update has been corrected to show that the National Weather Service said at least seven, not eight, tornadoes hit during Wednesday’s storm. Pence said the state “will continue to work very closely with the mayor and with our federal partners to help this community rebuild”.
