Officers were evacuating the Columbiana Centre mall, about 10 miles northwest of the State House in downtown Columbia, and talking with potential witnesses, the Columbia Police Department said on its Twitter account.

The shooting was reported just before 7 p.m.

Officers with the Columbia Police Department responded to a possible shooting at Columbiana Mall Saturday night.

The men ran out of the mall and have not been found. Several teams of heavily armed officers could be seen searching around the mall and the dozens of stores and restaurants nearby.

The people involved in the incident then fled the area, Holbrook said. A woman who owns a boutique in the mall says she saw people drop everything and start running after hearing what she now believes were shots being fired.

Lori Easterwood, an employee of CBS affiliate WLTX-TV, said she was in Claire’s when employees heard that shots were fired.

Police said the mall has been evacuated, the station added.
