Com report: Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey expected to have another surgery

The surgery was necessary, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports, because of an infection caused by a metal plate inserted during the first surgery.

Pouncey, who injured his ankle during the Steelers preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, was placed on the teams Reserve/Injured list in Week 1 with the designated to return tag.

An infection may cost Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey his 2015 season.

Originally the No. 18 overall pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2010 NFL Draft out of Florida, Pouncey has made the Pro Bowl in four of five seasons in the National Football League, making it in every season in which he has managed to play in at least 14 games. It’s a major issue for the Steelers, as Cody Wallace has been a liability in Pouncey’s absence.

Pouncey underwent surgery in late August to address his injury, but his hard luck with health issues appears to be continuing.

This could be the second time Pouncey loses an entire season to injury; he tore his ACL in the regular-season opener in 2013.
