Comanche in front in 71st Sydney race
CORRECTION: Comanche’s official finish time for the 2015 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race was 2 days, 8 hours, 58 minutes and 30 seconds.

Witt was happy to have taken second on line honours from Rambler after a close battle up the Derwent.
“She’s our head cheerleader. Then it turns to how are we going to keep sailing”, Wislang said.
Syd Fischer’s supermaxi Ragamuffin 100, currently in third place, will now be a hot contender for line honours along with Rambler 88 and Comanche.
Last year’s victor, 43-foot Wild Rose, with Alexandra Headland’s Andrew and Samantha Scott in the crew, are now out of the running for a successful defence of the title.

They overcame a lost daggerboard, damaged rudder and steering problems to claim a treasured victory – the first foreign boat to claim line honours since 2009 and the first American victor since 1998.
However, before the race, Clark felt winning would not totally rob Australians.
It was a welcome into Hobart like no other for the U.S. yacht Comanche, the crew of the 100-footer celebrating to Queen’s hit song Fat Bottomed Girls.
PENNY TIMMS: The final hours of the race were in stark contrast to the conditions faced on the open seas. I was hanging on to the back end and my sea boots were dragged off me.
Covering approximately 630 nautical miles (1,167km) of the Tasman Sea and notoriously treacherous Antarctic Ocean, the annual race is Australia’s premier yachting event and among the world’s most grueling.

Comanche’s finish was impeded by the breeze which came and went at whim as the yacht rounded the Iron Pot.

Second-placed Rambler also suffered an injury when she hit something in the water early on Sunday afternoon. At the last, Witt had to decide whether to follow Rambler, when tactician Brad Butterworth took the American boat towards shore looking for pressure.
