Come May 25, Apple to stop children’s iTunes allowance

iTune’s Allowance is a long-running program that benefits both parents and children since the allowance is supplied monthly via iTunes allowance account without giving any credit card info to children. Apparently, Family Sharing will take the mantle from the Cupertino giant’s older service. This credit could be used to purchase content from the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, Mac App Store or even an Apple Music membership. By May 25, automatic allowance refills will be cut off, though any unused funds will remain in the recipient’s account until spent. Another alternative in the same email, iTunes Gifts card, which can be given out each month, is same as transferring credit in iTunes Allowance at the start of every month.

iTunes Allowances are coming to an end. Since April 13, users could not create new iTune’s allowance deposits as the feature will be officially no long supported since May 25. Whereas, if the user uses Allowance feature, and runs out of balance provided, then he or she would have to wait for the next month to begin. To send gifts to family and friends, use iTunes Gifts. We wonder: is the service being shut down because Family Sharing replaces it, because people didn’t find it helpful, or because Apple didn’t expose or promote it well enough?

Apple has introduced other ways to manage family spending in recent years, most notably the family sharing options. PC users can also use this feature via iCloud for Windows.
