Comeback: UFC champ Miocic survives knockdown, wins by KO

Miocic escaped that submission soon enough, and while he appeared slightly shaken up at first, he landed a flurry of blows, working toward pushing Overeem toward the fence and eventually landing a big takedown.

Overeem connected with a stinging left hand that staggered Miocic before following him to the ground where he applied the choke. A series of mounted punches inside the guard knocked out Overeem, and the match was all over, just 4:27 into the first round.

It was a thunderous collision between the two heavyweights, with Miocic stopping the fight in the first round.

Stipe Miocic celebrates after defeating Alistair Overeem Saturday at UFC 203 in Cleveland.

Miocic was dropped by a huge Overeem right-hand in the early going and in the subsequent scramble he nearly succumbed to a guillotine choke from the Dutchman.

For Correia, who won for the first time in nearly two years, she has all the confidence in the world; she even called out Miesha post-fight.

“I’m going to stay champ for a long time”, he said.

“He kicked harder than I thought (he would)”, he said. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Earlier, former WWE star CM Punk was pounded in less than three minutes in his MMA debut.

Alistair Overeem raised thousands of eyebrows by claiming Stipe Miocic tapped out to a guillotine choke at UFC 203, and not surprisingly, the heavyweight champ’s outright denied that’s the case.

Gall called out Sage Northcutt and CM Punk refused to call it a career.

“Yeah you know in life you go big or you go home”, Punk said afterward. I just remember punching him in the face repeatedly until he was unconscious.

Travis Browne, left, punches Fabricio Werdum, from Brazil, during a heavyweight bout at UFC 203 on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, in Cleveland. “He put me on my ass, but I wasn’t hurt”.
