Comedian Victoria Wood dies

Victoria Wood, the comedian behind the award-winning TV show Dinnerladies, has died.

It was announced on Wednesday that the Prestwich-born actress and writer, who attended Fairfield County Primary School and Bury Grammar School, died at home with her family after a short battle with cancer.

Phillip Schofield has joined the ranks of those paying tribute to comedian Victoria Wood in the wake of her death.

“I don’t think Steph will mind me saying, but at that time in her life, Steph was very young and just starting out and they were all discussing if she could afford rent or whatever it was”.

Throughout her long and successful career, Victoria starred in various BBC comedies including Dinnerladies, and was known for her work with long-term collaborator and friend Julie Walters.

“Ghostbusters” director Paul Feig praised Victoria as a “brilliantly amusing woman”, as he wrote on Twitter: “Very sad to hear of the passing of Victoria Wood”.

Victoria leaves behind her two grown up children, Henry and Grace. She is survived by her two grown-up children. Wood was made a CBE in Queen’s Elizabeth’s Birthday Honours in 2008.

It was subsequently turned into a musical by Victoria, it went on to garner several Olivier Award nominations with Celia Imrie winning Best Supporting Actress for her role as Miss Babs, the owner of Acorn Antiques.

Victoria Wood and Julie Walters met in 1978 when they both had parts in a London play called In At The Death, and they formed a friendship that lasted for over 35 years.
