Incirlik is home to 2,700 USA personnel serves a key base of operations for airstrikes against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

The air space around Incirlik was closed during the attempted coup amid concerns a tanker aircraft commandeered from the base was used to refuel aircraft involved in the attempted overthrow.

USA officials have shot down any such suggestion.

Commercial electric power has been restored to Incirlik Air Base in Turkey today, according to U.S. European Command officials.

U.S. European Command announced in a statement that commercial power returned at the base, in the southern portion of the country near the Syrian border.

The United States has about 2,700 troops, refueling aircraft and attack jets at Incirlik, which has become a key launch site for anti-ISIS missions since a much-touted agreement a year ago between Turkey and the United States to use it for the campaign.

Military officials said generated electric power capability will be maintained for the base should the commercial electricity be interrupted again.

Experts believe there are also about 50 nuclear warheads at the base, though USA officials consistently decline to confirm that.
