Committed: LeBron James signs new contract with Cleveland Cavaliers
Fans talked about the King staying in Cleveland on Twitter. He was not popular in Cleveland when he headed to South Beach, but his time and championships there may have directly led the Cavaliers to their first title when he returned home. What wasn’t clear until Thursday was the type of contract he would sign.

LeBron’s new deal is reportedly a 3-year contract worth around $100million.
Why would James make that choice?
How do you get yourself into a position where you can ask your boss for ridiculous amounts of cash and they’ll give it to you without asking?
LeBron James posted a video Thursday, announcing he will be returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Let’s put some numbers behind these options. It’s a little more complicated than this, but the “over-36 rule” prevents older players from signing true max deals.
Per Windhorst, James will be the highest paid player in the league during the 2016-17 season when he makes $31 million. That would put the max-salary tier at $33.5 million, which James will not be able to achieve because he’ll be locked in. The Cleveland Cavaliers will be paying him $33 million, which is more than any National Basketball Association player has ever been paid for a season.
Will new CBA mean new max?
Both players and owners have until December 15 to opt out of the CBA after this season, which is nearly a foregone conclusion because of the unexpected implications of the cap spike – unless the sides can reach agreement on a new deal before that date.
The max salary figures to be an interesting talking point in negotiations.
Davidson night – which features Golden State in Curry’s hometown of Charlotte, and a whole lot of love for the former Wildcat – happens January 25.
The former Miami Heat superstar further noted, “I’m ecstatic”.
In 2017, LeBron James will receive a raise. They came back from a deficit, forced a Game 7 out of the Warriors, and won the NBA Championship.
Forget the money. The money is always going to be there.
Smith, a free agent, started 77 games for the Cavaliers last season. The records do not stop there for James and his new contract either. However, if the collective bargaining agreement proves to be more lucrative than now, the 260-pound small forward can then opt out of his current deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers to command an even higher salary.
James also said he hopes the team can convince free agent guard J.R. Smith to return next season.
