Communist Leader AB Bardhan Passes Away After Month-long Battle
He shifted to Delhi in the 1990s and rose to become the deputy general secretary of the CPI before taking over as General Secretary in 1996.

Senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Ardhendu Bhushan Bardhan passed away in New Delhi on Saturday.
Bardhan, 92, is survived by son Ashok and daughter Alka. His wife Padma, who was a professor in Nagpur University, had died in 1986.
He was 91 and was being treated at G. B. Pant hospital here.
“Condition of Comrade Bardhan has worsened today”.
Bardhan was put off ventilator yesterday and was able to breathe normally. He had won as an independent candidate in Maharashtra assembly polls in 1957.
CPI(M)’s West Bengal general secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra said he was active throughout his life to unite and strengthen the working class as well as the Left movement in the country. “We miss your wisdom, experience & guidance”, he tweeted.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President V M Sudheeran said Bardhan played a vital role in strengthening and building up the communist movement in the country.
“Saddened at the passing of veteran politician AB Bardhan. My condolences to his grieving family”, Rajnath tweeted. “I pay my rich tributes to him”.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said an era has ended with the demise of Bardhan, who had always worked for the poor and downtrodden.
