Community Colleges Hold Vigils In Solidarity With Umpqua
Exactly one week ago, it was a moment of chaos at Umpqua Community College in Oregon.

At Carteret Community College at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, students and staff gathered out front to remember the nine lives lost and the many others injured in the shooting at Umpqua Community College.
Utopians believe, for example, that expanded, “universal”, background checks would prevent mass shootings.
An initial investigation into the shooting also found angry social media posts written by Harper-Mercer that discussed a hatred for organized religion and an admiration for other mass shooters. Nine other students were wounded and thousands of lives changed forever in the worst mass shooting ever in Oregon. The most prevalent examples include the current gun control policy, mental health reform and gun violence. He then retreated to the classroom where he had gunned down eight students and a professor and killed himself. Students use the Roseburg Rod and Gun Club, a short drive from campus, to shoot or get help registering for a concealed-carry permit, an employee there said. In fact, Congress is pushing for a new gun-control proposal that will look to cut down how many people have access to guns through background checks.
After the shooting at Umpqua Community College, higher education institutions are reviewing their own security procedures, trying to figure out if any lessons can be applied to their campuses.
In another article published by the Chicago Tribune on October 4, Erich Pratt, the director of communications for Gun Owners of America, reminded readers that every public mass shooting since 1950, except for two, has taken place in a gun-free zone.
Again, although the NYT made clear that there are people calling for the passage of more gun control in the wake of the attack, they stressed the desire to acquire a gun for self-defense is “common”. He ruled out various targets because he anxious that someone with a gun would cut short his killing spree.
Snyder pointed out that Umpqua Community College was known to everyone as a facility that prohibited firearms on campus.
The stories were more about how there really is no debate at all.

While the Supreme Court interpreted the Second Amendment to encompass private citizens in their 2008 decision in District of Columbia v. Heller, they did not invalidate the founders’ point on regulation.
