Community says final goodbyes to officer killed in the line of duty
He said Cannon was taken into custody without incident.

The crowd to see him off quickly grew as the procession left the Kilpatrick Rose Neath Funeral Home on Marshall Street and wound through the streets of Shreveport. So was a prayer to St. Michael, patron saint of law enforcement officers.
LaValley is to be buried at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Deputies T. Pugh and Mike Duong represented their California department.
Below is a video from Louisiana State Police of officers paying their respects to LaValley. Louisiana officers arrived from Monroe and West Monroe, Chitimacha Tribal Police, City of d’Iberville, St. Tammany, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and, of course, in large force from Shreveport.
Police in northwest Louisiana have identified an officer who was killed and the suspect wanted in his slaying.
Officer LaValley, 29, was a news photographer turned police officer, having served the people of Shreveport for the past four years. “Our hearts are saddened”, Mayor Ollie Tyler said in a statement. “It was a neighborhood friend that grew up with my two sons and they were all best buddies”. He was all about kindness and giving.
LaValley didn’t believe him, Shaw said, but he assured LaValley that he would be hired if he met the requirements.
Williams, who attended a Thursday night vigil for LaValley, told KSLA-TV (http://bit.ly/1ho6Yfp), that he was shot while serving court papers on Cannon. He applied to the academy until he was selected, than ranked atop his class.
Now, besides the previous charge, Cannon is wanted on suspicion of first-degree murder, Shaw said. “He just bought a new house and was planning to hunt in the area behind it”.
There was not a dry eye, and a chilling, eerie feeling came over people as dispatch called out to Officer LaValley over the radio for the final time.
His fellow Shreveport officers were not the only ones out in support. Turning toward the church parking lot, she said he would have been both honored and embarrassed by the huge turnout of officers showing their respect.
He returned home to Ascension Parish often, she said.
To the end, she said, he was faithful to God and his family, and always carried the Holy Rosary in his pocket. “That was incredible and very moving and it meant more to my family than I can ever say”, said Lavalley’s cousin Jeannie Averett.
“Such a sudden loss of life you know, for no reason, I don’t feel that anyone deserves to go so young, and I thinks that’s what it is, he was just so young and had a bright future in front of him”.
