Company owner in 1MDB probe released on bail

The 27-year-old suspect was detained at his residence in Bentong, Pahang around 6.30pm Saturday by a team of Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) officers.

Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasmin Ab Rahman allowed the clerk to be remanded for four days.

The despatch clerk is being investigated under Section 16(a) on bribery of the MACC Act.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Sazalie Abdul Khairi.

A managing director of a company with the title of “Datuk” was ordered to be released by the magistrates’ court here yesterday after being held in remand for four days to facilitate investigations into 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Two of those arrested have been released on bail.

He was detained on Thursday at the MACC headquarters and remanded on Friday.

Still under MACC’s custody is the 28-year-old business owner and a 48-year-old Datuk, who is the managing director of the same construction firm mentioned.

It is understood that the MACC had applied for a seven-day remand but was granted four.

The 1MDB task force detained several people last week as part of the unit’s probe into the state investment arm’s scandal.

Sources from the task force undertaking the probe said investigators are not “frying the small fish” but taking a “bottom to the top” approach leaving no stones unturned.
